The ISFP was founded to stimulate scientific research relating to any aspect of proteolysis which is relevant to human biology and pathology.

Composition of the council

M. Colucci will be chairman and N. Mutch chairman-elect until 2018. A new secretary-treasurer and executive director will have to be appointed by 2018. M. Geiger, D. Lawrence, L. Miles and J. Wojta have accepted to join the Advisory Board. Class 2022 (with T. Kietzmann, N. Nagai, M.P. Stoppelli and T. Urano) was officially accepted by the General Assembly. The mandate of the ex-officio members M. De Maat (IFRS) and T. Lisman (JTH) are prolonged; P. Kim replaces N. Mutch as chairman SSC/ISTH-fibrinolysis. P. Declerck, the previous chairman, will remain on the Council until 2018.

Membership

Eleven new regular and 9 new junior members were accepted by the General Assembly; 61 full memberships were paid in 2016, and 38 junior members and 13 honorary members are registered. Five of eleven complimentary memberships were prolonged for 2 years, the 6 other did not renew their interest in ISFP. A new membership directory will be emailed.

Financial situation

The income statement and balance 2015 and the proposed budget for 2016 were approved by the General Assembly. The membership fee for 2017 will be kept at €60 or €100 for 2017-2018. Two travel grants were awarded in 2015 (€2500 in total). The General Assembly agreed, as proposed by the Council, to continue the D. Collen Young Investigator Awards (1 x €2500 and 4 x €1000), and the ISFP prize (10,000$) at the next congress (see below). In addition travel grants will be available for young investigators with the highest rated abstracts (to be defined).

Society Journal

In 2015, 1238 manuscripts were submitted to the Journal, of which 29% were accepted. The IF= 5.72. The Editors propose to launch a new section, FORUM, an early career series with communications from young scientists to guide new colleagues. A new on-line journal (open access) will be launched by ISTH.

Shizuoka congress 2016

This first joint meeting of ISFP and PA workshop was attended by 133 active participants, representing 17 countries. Presentations included 57 orals, 28 posters, 2 plenary and 6 state-of-the-art lectures, as well as 2 sponsored symposia. The Council and General Assembly have congratulated Prof. Urano and his team for an outstanding congress, at scientific as well as social level.

Future meetings

The second joint meeting of the ISFP (XXIVth congress) and the PA Workshop (XVIIth meeting) will be organized in Edinburgh (UK) (September 3-7, 2018). Congress president N. Mutch presented practical arrangements and extended a warm invitation to the congress. As the ISTH will organize its international congress on a yearly basis from 2020 on, the ISFP/PA meeting may have to reschedule its meetings. A potential collaboration with the IFRS was also proposed by R. Ariens.
